Architect

Kanner Architects is an award-winning studio of 20 architects in Santa Monica, California. Design is directed by Stephen H. Kanner, FAIA. The firm celebrated 60 years of continuous design excellence in 2006.

The goal of Kanner Architects is to explore, develop and produce designs of warm and timeless modernist architecture. This bright vision fulfills clients’ needs by creating environments that are uniquely planned: sensitive to site and budget, mindful of conservation, and inventive in use of materials. The firms draws inspiration from the climate, innovation, and diversity of Southern California, and our design process takes into account the seasons and the changes of light during the passage of the day.

Kanner Architects is internationally recognized and has worked on a range of projects that includes commercial, institutional, retail, multi-family and single-family homes. The firm has garnered more than three-dozen design awards in recent years, many of which were from local and national chapters of the American Institute of Architects. This year (2008) Kanner won both the AIA National Honor Award and the AIA National Housing Award as well as a Residential Architect Design Award (Grand Award). Other notable accolades include the 2006 AIA National Housing Committee Award, the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design award, the Next LA award, the IDEA award as well as a dozen local Los Angeles Business Council Awards.

Developer

Urban Environments (UE) is a development firm delivering personal space for a modern lifestyle: an urban loft home at an affordable price, in a desirable location, with an incomparable style. Our aesthetic revolves around spatial simplicity, using raw material – concrete, glass, steel – within a minimalist floorplan. Rather than dictate how the individual should live, UE homes are designed to maximize space, light, and air, allowing the owner to control his/her environment. This is done within a medium density living arrangement. Townhomes sensitive to an owner’s privacy.

Chris DeBolt is the managing partner of the development group. Chris has developed over 2,000,000 square feet of retail and residential real estate over the last 15 years, working in cities such as New York, Chicago, and now Los Angeles – a city rapidly growing into a true international capital. Chris’s group of investors, designers and builders are committed to this city, intend on delivering cutting edge design at an affordable price.
